These terms and conditions govern all bookings made with ScotLore Tours. By completing a booking and making payment, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these terms. Plain English, no small print tricks — here's exactly what you're agreeing to.

1 Booking & Payment

2 Cancellation & Refunds

Customer Cancellations

To cancel your booking, email us at adventure@scotloretours.com with your booking reference. Refunds are processed based on how far in advance you cancel:

Operator Cancellations

ScotLore reserves the right to cancel a tour due to insufficient bookings, unsafe conditions, or circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, you will be offered either:

We will notify you as early as possible by email if a tour is cancelled by us.

3 Safety & Participation

Assumption of Risk

Walking tours involve physical activity in outdoor and occasionally uneven terrain. Participants acknowledge that there are inherent risks associated with walking through Edinburgh's Old Town, underground vaults, and historic sites, including but not limited to uneven cobblestones, low ceilings, steps, and variable weather conditions.

Fitness & Suitability

You are responsible for ensuring that you and all members of your party are physically fit and able to participate in the tour. If you have any mobility limitations, health concerns, or other conditions that may affect your ability to participate safely, please contact us before booking so we can advise on suitability.

Right of Refusal

ScotLore reserves the right to refuse participation to, or remove from a tour, any individual whose behaviour is deemed inappropriate, disruptive, or a safety risk to themselves or others. This includes (but is not limited to) verbal abuse, harassment, or disrespect toward guides or other guests. No refund will be given where removal is due to behaviour.

4 Alcohol & Intoxication

ScotLore reserves the right to refuse participation to, or remove from a tour, any guest who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs where their condition poses a safety risk to themselves or other participants. No refund will be given in such cases.

Any future tours involving alcohol (such as whisky-paired experiences) will be clearly marked as 18+ on their respective listings. Age ID may be required.

5 Guest Responsibilities

6 Age Policy

Age requirements vary by tour type. Please review the relevant policy before booking:

Tour Type Minimum Age Notes
Daytime Walking Tours All ages welcome Suitable for families with children of all ages
Daytime Underground Tours 12+ Guests under 15 must be accompanied by a responsible adult
Evening Underground Tours 16+ Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult

ScotLore reserves the right to set specific minimum age requirements for any tour. Age restrictions will always be clearly stated on the relevant tour listing page.

7 Group Bookings (10+ Guests)

Different terms and pricing may apply for groups of 10 or more. If you are booking for a large group, please contact us directly before booking rather than using the standard online checkout.

Email adventure@scotloretours.com with your group size, preferred tour, and date — we'll get back to you with a tailored quote and the applicable terms.

8 Changes & Date Amendments

If you need to change your tour date, please contact us as early as possible at adventure@scotloretours.com with your booking reference. Date changes are subject to availability.

ScotLore reserves the right to amend tour content, meeting points, or routes where necessary due to events, safety considerations, or local conditions. We will notify affected guests as soon as practicable.

9 Force Majeure

ScotLore is not liable for cancellations, delays, or changes caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:

In such circumstances, we will offer alternative dates or a credit where possible. Full refunds will be issued where no suitable alternative can be provided.

10 Liability

ScotLore Tours is not responsible for any personal injuries, damage, or loss of property sustained during or in connection with a tour. Participation is at your own risk.

ScotLore carries public liability insurance appropriate for our tour operations. However, we strongly recommend that all guests hold their own personal travel and accident insurance.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11 Photography & Media Consent

ScotLore may photograph or film during tours for use on our website, social media channels (including YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram), and other marketing materials.

If you do not wish to appear in any photographs or video content, please inform your guide at the start of the tour. We will respect your preference.

Guests are welcome to take personal photographs and videos during tours for non-commercial use. Please be respectful of other guests and follow any photography restrictions at specific sites.
